"I want to write you to thank you for the Elks Legacy scholarship you honored me with. Since arriving at Dartmouth I have been working to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa, climed mountains, volunteered in the local surgical ward at the hospital, raced my bicycle over the forested hills of the Northeast and prepared to bike across the country this summer. My experiences have been unparalleled, and the opportunities on the horizon are just as boundless. This is much more than I had ever dreamed of just a few years ago; most farm kids don't end up leaving North Dakota, my home and a place that will always hold a special place in my heart. I just want to let you know the impact of what you do every year you hand out scholarships. Thank you, God bless and I hope that more students can experience the adventure of a college education beyond their wildest dreams."
