edamn (edamnsalvador@yahoo.net)

I am a simple man with immense aspiration in life, to be a globally competitive nurse in the future, but it’s too impossible for me to reach my dreams; my family doesn’t have enough money to afford sending me and my siblings to college. I graduated elementary and high school experiencing what most of the students in the Philippines go through. Going to school by means of walking, in solution for that, my mother borrow money from our neighbor just for us to have jeepney fare and breakfast and many other trials I have encountered. This experience molds me and addresses me to one vision, which I will study hard and never ever waste my life in nonsense things and be upright person to make my parents be proud of me and give them a life which they have never tasted; a pleasant life. Keeping my grades not to fail and within average which makes them contented. I carry this objective till I graduated and makes me wander is there life after I have graduated, what it would like to be? Will I be a factory worker or a college student? There’s nothing to ask for, because I have only one option to be a factory worker. I have already prepared and accomplished my resume for application but my teacher called me and told me that I am one of the qualified students to be supported by Mr. Abelardo Estacion. At first I thought he is mysterious man, but when I heard his story, his anecdote seems doesn’t far from me. A person who really knows what is the meaning of education and values so much, have gone so many difficulties of life and won against the combat to poverty. Giving all out support to those person who not totally related to him and welcome and treated as his own children, it just like a fairy tale that I have given a chanced to go to college and take the course I really wanted. I really wanted to give thanks to God for sending this person in my life that stands like a second father, who gives me opportunity to reach my goals in life, Mr. Abelardo Estacion, I owe you my life, Thank you very much. You were content to let me shine; you always walk a step behind. I was the one with the glory, while you are the one with the strength. Did you ever known that you’re my hero? Everything I would like to be, I could fly higher than an eagle because you are the wind beneath my wings. It might have been appeared to be unnoticed, but I’ve got it all in my heart, I want you to know that I know the truth; I would be nothing without you. “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” A man given with the golden heart that could give surprises like Santa clause and save the dreams of those who are hopeless, you’re my hero, and you make things impossible is achievable. I and my family were very thankful to have you. We are always praying that God showered you good health and in high spirits life. We love you and I will forever be your second son constantly here for you. God Bless.

then we he calls say, 'WHAT??? I SAID TSP at 6:30... thanks for FLAKING!!'

Wouldn't THIS be great... article in the OC Regsiter:

NFL, Anaheim discussing franchise Discussions are in the early stages toward bringing a team here by the 2008 season.

By MICHELE HIMMELBERG The Orange County Register

Nearly 10 years after the Los Angeles Rams abandoned their home in Anaheim, the National Football League is talking to the city about building a stadium complex for an NFL franchise that could begin play in 2008.

NFL officials, including strategic planning executives, have inspected a prospective site near Angels Stadium that the city has been calling the "Platinum Triangle." It’s located near the Orange (57) and Santa Ana (I-5) freeways, near the intersection of State College Boulevard and Katella Avenue.

Discussions are in the early stages, but city officials believe they are "substantive" – and not just a move by the NFL to encourage three other potential bidders in Southern California to improve their proposed deals to build a stadium.

"There is significant interest from the Anaheim City Council and city management in bringing additional professional sports franchises to the City of Anaheim," said Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle. "The success and popularity of our teams – the Anaheim Angels and the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim – prove that fans from all over California travel to Anaheim to watch quality franchises, and having an NFL team return to our city would be a welcome addition."

Anaheim already has a site that has cleared some of the development hurdles that are facing other potential football sites in Southern California – the Los Angeles Coliseum, the Rose Bowl and a proposed site in Carson.

The approved site, adjacent to Angel Stadium, is accessible from five major freeways and has an Amtrak/Metrolink station within walking distance, which could give fans from Santa Barbara to the Mexican border easy access to the new stadium.

"Anaheim is interested in pursuing a relationship with the National Football League that would ensure a positive impact on the city's residents and businesses, including our other professional sports franchises, and a successful football franchise for the league in the nation's second-largest television market," City Manager David M. Morgan said.

The immediate draw of an Anaheim/Los Angeles franchise would encompass three of the most-populous areas in the nation (Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside/San Bernardino counties). Orange County alone represents a population of more than 3 million people and contributes $118 billion dollars to the Anaheim/Los Angeles market, city officials said.

The corporate community has supported advertising and luxury suites at Angels Stadium and the Arrowhead Pond.

It is what it is...I will be there because Bob Hatch approached me if I didnt mind if he nominate me for this position. He said one meeting a month and I said OK.

I heard Alex Schmidlen, George Eden, Tom Wilkie, Ed Repic and other powerhouses are running also so my chances are slim.

B-Ho I agree with you - but when the trade was made the Dodgers were in first place. Why would you go and break that up? I understand that you want to make your team stronger - but why not just go pick somebody up that you can get with some scrubs - not Mr. DOdger paul LoDuca. Encarnation is a piece of shi* so that was fine. Mota - he was a good setup man - but when you think of the Dodgers - you were not thinking of those guys - you would think Shawn Green, Paul LoDuca -Etc.. I just don't agree that it was a good move. If it works out.. Great - just dumb in my eyes.

GO YANKEES!!! OUT

Posted 08/05/2004 at 8:58 AM

Billy Ho

Nick, I am very suprised that you would actually compare the LoDuca deal to the Piazza deal. Stop being emotional about this trade and start being logical. Paul Loduca is a great team guy and a little firecracker. He is still an avg catcher, a career .287 hitter that really does not produce too much in the run department. He is going to be 33, Mota is going to be 31 and Encarnicion just has not worked out. Dreifort can take over the set-up job, our middle relief is improved by Alvarez going back to the pen allowing us to get rid of that stiff Tom Martin and we get a #1,#2 starter in Brad Penny. Choi though struggles very bad against lefties has some pop and is only 25 years old. Finley will more than double LoDucas run production output and has already made an impact in our lineup. Ross though he has problems hitting is a FAR superior catcher than LoDuca.

Plus'

1. Better defense 2. More Power 3. Better Starting Staff 4. Better Middle Relief 5. Younger

Minus'

1. Lose a team guy 2. Lose a quality "PROVEN" set-up man

You do the math my friend.

I love LoDuca, but his knack of hitting 60-70 points less in the 2nd half kills us and I will miss him for sure but this team is better now then it was a week ago.

Two bad days in Dodger history...1st Piazza and now Lo Duca ! The catcher the Dodgers got in exchange for both is freaking Charles " My Career Average is .230 " Johnson !

Charles Johnson, Brad Penny, Hee Suck Choi better do something for the Dodgers come playoff time.

I just heard a three way trade is in the works with Arizona, Florida and Dodgers. Dodgers would get Brad Penny, Heep Sop Choi and Steve Finley. Dodgers would give up Lo Duca and Guillermo Mota.

I hope this is not true.

Lets hear for those Dodgers...

July 23, 2004

Dodgers: 55-39 (1st place by 2.5 games)

Angels: 50-45 (3rd place, trailing 5 games)

Drom, can we book a wet bus to the Chavez Ravine for the playoffs or even better a World Series game this year ? Just wondering. So for all you Angel fans who thought it was so cute your lowely Angels beat up on the Dodgers the night of the Elks wet bus to Dodger Stadium...........whose laughing now. No one is going to remember that single game, all that will be remembered is the Dodgers going to the World Series while the Angels are watching them on TV.

My mother, Sue Chiapuzio, died yesterday morning, as a result of complications of open heart surgery. They had been married for 53 years and did virtually everything together. My father is beside himself with grief. Does anyone know of any type of support group for people who have lost thier spouses? I do not know if my father would participate, but I thought I would try to at least get some information.

Nice to see Greg Baker come and post on the message board. Greg, what is your opinion on this matter ?

Did we mention that every employee at the lodge under George Eden's supervision absolutely dislikes him ? If we need a damn GM then open it up to the best freaking (non-elk) applicant. No politics, just the best man for the job. I guarantee George would not be mentioned anymore.

Well guys here is my opinion.

I am still a relatively new lodge member who has been less involved as he would like to be because of school so I am really unclear to what the exact duties and responsibilities are and would be. The lodge might not be a business like other business' but is a business none the less. Therefore MUST be run like a business to be successful. If keeping this lodge a success requires a GM then it is defintely something worth looking into. I would agree with Craig and I would hope that the House Committee would REALLY do their homework on a comparison of what GM's are making in this general area ( Orange County ) for this particular size of business. Somebody has to be responsible right? I really would need more information before voting for or against this idea. If the guy is qualified and the Lodge feels this is the best way to go and 60k falls within that comparision for "LIKE" jobs in the "SAME" area then go for it. Dan are they talking contracts? 2 year? 3 year guarantee? or is this a position that can be expired if the general opinion is that it is not going well? or are they negotiating this?

Posted 07/09/2004 at 5:25 PM

Craig Whaley (craig.whaley@pfrd.ocgov.com)

from Santa Ana, CA, Lodge #794

I believe $60k is way above the industry standard for F&B manager or Restaurant GMs, for a store the size of #794. I would be interested to know how many covers we average per day. Granted GMs usually employ an Assistant manager, Beverage manager, and a Banquet manager the combined salaries would exceed the $60k. But doesn't George already have these assistant managers. Perhaps the industry has changed drastically since I was in the F&B business. Maybe I should look for another career change.

You make a good point Rash, why would we as a lodge want to invest 60K a year in a member who has quit on US who knows how many times. What about loyalty, respect, integrity ?

You both make valid points... and these are questions that should be asked if a vote comes to fruition. My take here is, rather than burying the guy let's hear both sides, and then we can all make a more complete decision. It's great to see you both interested in the ongoings of the lodge... Who says the young members don't care?!?!?

Dan I agree with you - I think that George does the best that he can -but for that money you need to be open to suggestions and be willing to change a bit. I also think that for 60k a year - it should not be a guy that has "quit" on the lodge in the past. But as an ELK I appreciate what he does..my question is - IS this the BEST think for our lodge? or would it be better to hire an outside person - that is not all tied up in the politics - make him an elk and let him do the job???? - - Just my thoughts

Posted 07/09/2004 at 10:33 AM

Nick

from Santa Ana, CA, Lodge #794

Yes, George Eden is doing the best job he can do but is it good enough to garner a $60k a year salary ? Could the money being spent on George instead go to a more qualified applicant that is not an elk ? Who created the pay scale ? If were going to spend 60K for a GM then it should be an outside person who doesnt run the club the way him and his buddies think is the best way. George Eden is still living in the 50s- 60s. He will never change with the times.

Posted 07/09/2004 at 4:30 AM

Dan Romero

from Santa Ana, CA, Lodge #794

there was supposed to be a meeting for a vote last Tuesday but it never came to it. I don't see paying him as automatically the worst idea. I think it's best to hear what the recommendation is and how the lodge is affected going forward. George's position is highly under-appreciated, and he does quite a bit that most members aren't willing to step up to the plate to do. GM being a paid position might be a very viable idea. I'd be curious to hear both the pros and cons on such a vote prior to making any type of judgement. I do feel George is doing the best job he can, and I as an elk, appreciate it.

The article has been updated to reflec the correct pitcher of record on the night. I'm sure you'll understand why we might have made this mistake considering we haven't seen you out at the Yard for months. Some wondered allowed if you were even still part of the team. But allas, it was great to not only see you out there playing, but guiding us to a win. For that, we thank you. With that said, let's go bring home the pennant next MONDAY. Even if you are hurt and can't play, I really hope you and Jilly Ho can carve out the time to come cheer your Elk brothers on.
