Wabasso Gift Wrapping and School Christmas Party

Wabasso School is an Indian River County public school for the intellectually disabled ages 5-22. Our involvement with Wabasso School began several years ago by Lodge member, past Elk of the Year - Kandy Houlihan, with a Christmas Party that provided the students exactly what was on their wish list.

This tradition continues this year under the leadership of Lodge Secretary, Kathi Miller. Wabasso teachers and administrators compiled the children's wish list for Santa to deliver. With the help of a grant from the Elks National Foundation, Kathi bought presents for the children.

The Gift Wrapping session was held on December 18th with the Lodge providing the gifts, wrapping paper and ribbons.

Our annual Christmas party at Wabasso was held the last day of IRC school district sessions before Christmas break on December 20. The party began at 10:15 am. The 59 children in attendance were excited to receive the presents they requested from Santa.

At the party, Lodge member Debbie Clement entertained the children with Christmas songs with her guitar.  Other members and their spouses visited with the children and shared in the joy of the season. For some children, this is the only present they will receive.
