Giving Hearts is a project we started three years ago to help some of our Northland Senior Citizens enjoy a happy Thanksgiving. Through two grants we receive from the Elks National Foundation and the generous donations of members and our local American Legion, we supply seniors identified by the Shepards Center with all the fixings for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. We also give them paper goods, toiletries, and a pantry full of non-perishable items. Plus, a gift card to purchase perishable items for their dinner. It takes many volunteers to make this happen. Not only do we sort and organize the products, we set up pick-ups at the Lodge, and home deliveries for those without transportation. It is a very rewarding experience.
We will start our first collection of items in July. This month we will focus on paper goods. We will have a spot in the Lodge to collect TOILET PAPER, PAPER TOWELS and KLEENEX. We are not wanting particular brands. Dollar Tree items are fine.
