Community Projects held 2024-2025 Elks year

The Elks year starts April 1 to March 31 each year. 

April 10 - Boys & Girls Club of the Big Island - $1,000 check was presented by ER Lily Chan-Harris, PER Robert Arthurs, and PAVP Miles Nakatsu, to assist with purchasing program materials for the children in their after school program. 

April 14 - Feed the Hungry event attended by 9 Elk members in the Fern Forest subdivision to help feed 40 families. Through the combination of the Beacon and Spotlight grants, the Hilo Elks Lodge donated $5,000 to the Big Island Learning and Arts Center for their outreach program to feed the hungry where the Food Basket reach does not exist. 

April 25 - Cub Scout Arrow of Light Ceremony for Cub Scout Pack 23. 8 Webelos Scouts were recognized with the California-Hawaii Elks Association Arrow of Light Certificate from PAVP Miles Nakatsu, Scouting Chairman of the Hilo Elks Lodge and the Hawaii District Scouting Chairman. The Arrow of Light is the highest award in Cub Scouting. 

May 16-19 - California-Hawaii Elks Association (CHEA) Convention, Fresno, California.  Hilo Elks Lodge donated $3,610.24 to California-Hawaii Elks Major Project, Inc (CHEMPI) to help disabled underprivileged children. Total CHEA donations to CHEMPI was $4,045,762.04. PAVP & Trustee Miles Nakatsu, installed as the CHEA Scouting Chairman. 

May 27 - Hawaii County Memorial Day services held at the Veteran's Cemetery #2 was attended by Lt. Col. Deb Lewis (ret), Marilyn Haymore, Rankin Gossert, Lorraine Shin, ER Lily Chan-Harris, and PAVP Miles Nakatsu. 

June 14 - Flag Day ceremony at the lodge, featuring Scouts from Boy Scout Troop 210, Girl Scout Troop 26, the cadets of Hilo squadron of the Civil Air Patrol.  Drug awareness pamphlets passed out to all youth in attendance.
