Jolie Bogart

Since she was young, Jolie Bogart has been captivated by how the world works around her. Now, this fascination has led her to medical school.

“My decision to pursue a career in medicine is rooted in my innate curiosity, combined with the opportunity to help people in need through the unique patient-physician relationship,” says Bogart, a 2019 Legacy scholar sponsored by Lakewood, Ohio, Lodge No. 1350.

The patient-physician relationship is certainly unique, but so is Bogart’s relationship with her sister, Maislin: They are twins.

As Jolie and Maislin Bogart grew up, they were inseparable. They played the same sports, led the same student organizations, and even received the same scholarship—the 2019 Legacy Awards scholarship, for which they were sponsored by Lakewood, Ohio, Lodge No. 1350. Their connection to the Elks began long before they became Elks scholars.

“Our father has been an Elk for years and has brought us to the Lodge many times,” says Jolie. “Being involved with the Elks has been very special and has taught me to give back to the communities that have given me so much.”

The Bogart twins took these lessons to heart. While attending Ohio University and volunteering at their local Lodge, they realized their passion for serving the community. With the aid of the Weigel Medical School Scholarship, they will both explore this passion in medical school, where Jolie will specialize in cardiology.

“Because of the increasing global burden of cardiovascular disease, I am motivated to contribute to the identification of novel, efficacious therapeutic targets for these disorders to improve health outcomes,” says Jolie.

As she pursues her dreams, Jolie hopes to make a major impact with the aid of the Elks.

“With the Weigel Medical School Scholarship, I will be able to make use of increased financial flexibility to continue being active in projects aimed at removing the barriers faced by people from lower-income communities,” says Jolie. “I will use this scholarship not only to my own benefit, but also to impact a greater community.”

Jolie will attend the Case Western Reserve School of Medicine.
