Position Description

We are seeking a talented Controller to join our team. This role is responsible for directing the fiscal functions of the organization in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Securities and Exchange Commission, other regulatory and advisory organizations, and in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate for non-profit organizations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and direct all financial activities of the organization, including budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and reporting.
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls to ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial information.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, FASB standards, SEC regulations, and other relevant financial management guidelines.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to the COO, Board of Directors, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Manage the organization's financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial audits.
  • Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision-making issues affecting the organization.
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
  • Oversee the management of investments, cash flow, and financial assets of the organization.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support overall organizational goals and objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations concerning financial operations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with financial institutions, auditors, and other financial stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification and/or MBA strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, with at least 3 years in a senior financial leadership role.
  • Experience in a non-profit organization is highly desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP, FASB standards, and financial management best practices.
  • Proven track record of managing financial operations and leading financial strategies in a complex organization.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in financial software and systems, with advanced skills in Excel and other financial analysis tools.
  • Position requires occasional travel to offsite and out-of-town meetings including attendance at the Elks National Convention annually.
